The Uppload is 1-years-old! 🥳 To celebrate, this bumper issue showcases all the fab things that have happened on Uppbeat this year, plus a case study on the Queen of Chicken herself - Amelia Dimoldenberg - whose channel just turned 10! But first, a big thank you. As an Uppload reader, and a valued member of the Uppbeat community, your support has been amazing over the last 12 months. We can’t wait to see what this next year holds!
An exciting year on Uppbeat

A lot can change in a year. Take The Uppload’s Issue 1 covergirl, Moo Deng. Once a cute, small thing, the viral baby hippo now looks like she could do damage. Uppbeat also packs more of a punch than a year ago. But what’s changed?
7,000 new sound effects, 2,068 new tracks, and 43 new artists → Including headline names like The Breed, Tonebox and Pappi Churro.
New and improved referral program → giving you the opportunity to earn free Uppbeat Creator, just by shouting about how much you love us.
Motion Graphics and LUTs → Can you believe we lived without them? Since February, 7k motion graphics and 150+ LUTs have made their way onto Uppbeat. #slay.
More ways to search → Our platform had a refresh and we added even more filters for mood, genre and theme.
Uppbeat took to TikTok → to share everything from deep dives on music genres (like Phonk!), to silly in-office skits… like Emma getting beat up by Emma.
And, last but not least, 8 Issues of The Uppload → spanning everything from the TikTok ban to ‘Coldplaygate’, to case studies on creators like you pushing the limits of your craft.
We started The Uppload a year ago to give our community the knowledge and inspiration to pursue what brings them joy. We’re excited to say our readership is pushing 200k (including you!) and to celebrate we have put an archive of all our past issues on the Uppbeat Blog. Explore yourself, or check out our top picks….
Chicken Shop Date turns 10
Did someone order a second ‘Happy Birthday’? Iconic interview channel, Chicken Shop Date, turned 10 this year!
What started as a column in a youth magazine, now clocks over 3.2 million subscribers on YouTube, features A-list celebrity guests like Sabrina Carpenter, and has even earnt its creator Amelia Dimoldenberg a place on the red carpet. In other words, there’s a lot to celebrate.
Chicken Shop Date’s 4 nuggets of wisdom:
We can learn a lot from Chicken Shop Date’s rise to fame, but here are four nuggets of wisdom from Amelia herself…
- Don’t wait to start → Key to Amelia’s success is her commitment to doing things, without waiting for the perfect conditions or for others’ approval. Case in point: Amelia had no camera experience when she started Chicken Shop Date. Instead of falling at the first hurdle, she sought out a crew to film her first episode, producing it herself.
- Stick to your guns → Not everyone was a fan of the chicken-shop-idea. Amelia’s tutors at university discouraged her video journalism, giving her the lowest grade in the class. Thankfully, she persevered. All 110 episodes have the same format, demonstrating the power of committing to an idea.
- Do your research → When it comes to crafting great content, preparation is essential. Before filming, Amelia swats up on her guests, watching movies, listening to whole albums and even reading YouTube comments from fans.
- Prioritise authenticity, not virality → Chicken Shop Date is famed for its deadpan, awkward energy - something Amelia says is “an exaggeration” of her real personality. Rather than pretend to be a version of what’s currently trending, Amelia doubles down on who she already is.
What are we watching?

We asked Libby Driscoll from our Brand team what creator she’s been loving and why.
What’s your favorite channel right now? “I’m really loving Aussie creator, Struthless at the moment.”
3 words to describe them? “Hopeful, inspirational, doodles.”
Why do you love them? “Struthless is a true beacon of hope for creatives bogged down by the current online climate! He records on an old camcorder with a jungle-esque backdrop, proving ‘good’ content doesn’t have to be super high quality, or loaded with hooks every other sentence”
We think Struthless would love… “Uppbeat’s collection of animations - all made by real illustrators like him!”
