One of the biggest joys of creating is the split second when you realise your video has struck a chord with someone else. Whether that’s a comment from a first time viewer, or something as simple as a like, these moments of connection make the hours of editing worthwhile.
My channel, The Creator’s Cut, is built on connection: connecting with other creators, connecting with my audience, and connecting deeply with myself and why I create videos. Chris Yap – YouTuber, filmmaker and our first spotlighted creator – echoes that to inspire others, you first need to be brave enough to let other people see who you are:
“Everything you are is worth sharing – you never know who you might inspire. Your life is a gift.”
In the spirit of connection, this month’s Cut is full of creators whose content inspires community. From solo travel vlogs to mental health chats, at the heart of these videos are creators who had the courage to show up authentically as themselves. Hopefully after reading (and watching), you’ll feel inspired to pick up the camera yourself. We’ve all got at least one thing worth sharing. What’s yours?
Iamchrisyap: Sharing the gift of your life
Chris’s channel perfectly illustrates the power of showing up authentically. He brings his warm personality to every one of his videos, with content ranging from camera gear and editing, to my personal favorite – vlogging.
The video → Vlogging 101. Or, all the inspiration you need to pick up the camera today.
Why I love it → Pacing, sound, visuals, plus strong actionable points, turn an otherwise simple talking head-style video, into something you have to watch to the end.
Get inspired → Sound design should never be an afterthought. Take a leaf out of Chris’s book and add depth to your shots with high-quality assets from libraries like Uppbeat.
Ottilie: Crafting strong narrative arcs
Key to inspiring content? Good storytelling. Ottilie’s videos on wellbeing, lifestyle and adventure have strong narrative arcs that start with a problem or tension, and end with a solution. She takes personal insights and makes them universal.
The video → How microadventures can help break routine and inspire creativity.
Why I love it → Ottilie’s use of natural lighting gives her videos a soft, authentic glow. Especially the last cut where she talks while facing into the sun – it feels like a genuine conversation with a friend.
Get inspired → Uplift and inspire your audience by ending your video with some kind of resolution. Whether that’s something you’ve learnt (as Ottilie does), or a universal truth others can relate with.
Lacapturevisuals: The power of perspective
If you need a lesson in cinematography, check out Desire’s channel, lacapturevisuals. Her filmmaking tutorials have everything you need to level up your content creation – and her more personal vlogs? Cinematic masterpieces that prove she really knows what she’s talking about.
The video → A solo roadtrip and a candid chat about fighting the comfort zone.
Why I love it → The different angles Desire captures whilst driving make you feel like you’re sat in the passenger seat. You even get a glimpse of the filming set up in her car!
Get inspired → Take your viewers on a literal journey by bringing your camera on your next trip. Who knows what insights will come to you along the way.
Sean Alami: The strength of personal storytelling
Sean’s Creator Spotlight series caught my eye, but his fitness videos made me stay. They tackle complex ideas, and are delivered through the emotive lens of his own fitness journey. Not interested in body composition? His videos are still a strong lesson in video composition and storytelling.
The video → A 365 day challenge to transform his ‘Dad bod’.
Why I love it → The horror-inspired intro hooks you from the start, transforming into a tale of strength and determination. From lighting to storytelling, it’s a perfect example of Sean’s top-notch filmmaking skills.
Get inspired → Flex your filmmaking muscles by taking a personal story and turning it into a documentary-style drama.
Sarah Snow: Crafting a unique visual identity
Land on one of Sarah’s videos and you instantly know it’s hers. The dreamy aesthetic and soft music perfectly complement her voiceovers. She tackles topics like content creation and virality, through to emotive takes on personal growth.
The video → Anxiety envisioned through the metaphor of a smoke alarm.
Why I love it → It’s the perfect example of creative storytelling with a deep meaningful message.
Get inspired → Craft your own visual brand by using the same visual effects and sounds across your videos. On the hunt for the perfect ones? Uppbeat has tons to get you inspired.
