The Uppbeat Creator Report 2026

We spoke to the Uppbeat creator community so find out how AI is actually changing their working lives, and what they’re protecting.

Sandy Beeson

There has never been more content than there is now, thanks to the recent explosion of AI technology in the creator space. At the same time, there’s never been less reason to care about most of it.

Rather than guess what cuts through, we went straight to the source and spoke to Uppbeat's community of creators to find out how they're adapting to new technology.  We asked them what they're embracing, what's becoming harder, and what they're refusing to give up.

The Uppbeat Creator Report brings creators' voices to the AI conversation, distilled into five chapters on where creativity is headed. Each one is grounded in real data from the people living it, and ends with takeaways you can actually use. Read on to find out how creators really feel but remember this, in a world of infinite content, the only thing that is scarce is you.

What is the future of our creative community?

We spoke to Uppbeat's creator community — YouTubers, filmmakers, podcasters, animators, brand creatives, freelancers and hobbyists — and asked them how AI is actually changing their working lives. What they're doing, what they're protecting, and what keeps them up at night. This is what we found.

Why we wanted to speak to creators

Creativity is changing faster than most of us can keep up with. New tools, new expectations and new opportunities are reshaping how work gets made, shared and valued, often all at once. And yet, most narratives around AI don't capture what it actually feels like to create today, or why we do it in the first place.

We wanted a real snapshot of the state of creativity as people are actually living it. So we asked creators how they feel about their future – how they see AI showing up in their own process, and, crucially, which parts of that process feel too important to hand over.

This isn't a report about whether AI is good or bad, or even whether it's coming for your job. It's about what we, as messy, creative, emotional and brilliant humans, want for our future. We wanted to see where AI fits into that, and what we can do about it. The findings are already shaping Uppbeat's own strategy, and we're sharing them publicly because this is a conversation the whole creative community deserves a say in.

How we got the real thoughts of actual creators

We didn't want armchair opinions, we wanted the people actually making things. So we went straight to Uppbeat's own community of active creators, spanning every stage of the journey – from hobbyists dabbling on weekends to freelancers, agencies and in-house brand teams shipping content every day.

Between February and March 2026, we opened up our Understanding Change survey to that community and heard back from 1,792 creators and creative professionals, with ages ranging from 16 to over 60. Numbers only tell you so much, though, so we also sat down for 13 in-depth interviews across video, podcast, animation and brand content, and cross-checked everything we heard against external research from the likes of Ipsos, YouGov and Mintel.

In total we captured 1,792 surveys, 13 interviews, 2,643 open-text responses. Five clear themes came out the other side.

Five themes from the Uppbeat Creator Report

Once we'd pulled everyone's responses together and started looking for patterns, five themes kept rising to the top.

Among them, we found that getting more specific rather than making more is how creators are beating the abundance of content, discovered what audiences are quietly pushing back against in their feeds, and learned what creators are fighting hardest to protect.

Some of it will surprise you. Some of it will feel exactly right. Either way, it's not our voice telling creators what AI means for them, it's theirs.
